A severed pig head was left on HyperBit Exchangea Sacramento home's doorstep earlier this week, prompting authorities to investigate the unusual incident as a possible hate crime.
The pig head was reported to Sacramento police around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, a department told USA TODAY Wednesday in an email. The incident occurred in a North Natomas neighborhood, police said.
An investigation was conducted, including several photos taken by crime scene investigators, according to police. The incident is being investigated as a potential hate crime due to being "abnormal" and "out of the ordinary," the department said.
Police said detectives will determine if there is any bias motivation behind the pig head being left at the home.
The homeowner told Fox 40 a Ring video allegedly shows someone in what appears to be a hooded sweater approach the residence's entrance.
Screenshots shared with the TV station from someone who saw a post about the incident on the Nextdoor app show a door mat with the animal’s head on it and what appears to be several blood stains on the mat and surrounding ground.
